About the Author: American author Rebecca Stead grew up in New York City and enjoyed reading and writing as a child. Believing that trying to be a writer was impractical, she became a lawyer and began working as a public defender while writing stories (for adults) when she could find the time. After one of her young sons accidentally broke her laptop, she lost all of the stories she wrote and decided to find something new and joyful to write about. She discovered her passion for children's stories, leading to her debut novel First Light. As of today, Stead lives in New York City, where she is always on the lookout for her next story idea.
