Event Details

Celebrate Women’s History Month by discovering the life of Monique Misenga Mukuna, an ‘ordinary heroine’ living and working on behalf of women, girls, and other marginalized people in her home country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo – Africa’s second largest nation.

‘Maman Monique’ has devoted her life to combating violence, discrimination, and poverty in the Congo. Her inspiring story is brought to life for us by her friend and Cherry Hill resident, Dr. Elsie Tshimunyi (Anne) McKee.

Dr. McKee was also born and raised in the Congo. A recently retired historian, she was Professor of Reformation Studies and the History of Worship at Princeton Theological Seminary.

Cradling Abundance: One African Christian’s Story of Empowering Women and Fighting Systemic Poverty (2021) was a labor of love as these two friends collaborated to get Maman Monique’s story out to the world.
